AN AUDIENCE WITH THE TANNERS

Plymouth Media-Partnership held a fascinating evening with the Tanner Brothers in association with the Plymouth Business Growth for National Enterprise week at the Barbican Theatre on Wednesday 15 November 2006

Plymouth's celebrity sibling chefs Chris and James Tanner talked about their training and early careers, the highs and lows of being a young entrepreneur and what it's like to run a successful business in this part of the world.

Partnership members and the public got to hear about the brothers' meteoric rise in the restaurant trade. James and Chris shared a childhood dream to own and operate their own restaurant. They achieved that goal in 1999 by opening Tanners in Plymouth's Prysten House. This year, they augmented their Plymouth presence by opening the Barbican Kitchen in Plymouth Gin's historic Distillery building.

As well as their local celebrity, they've received national and international fame through appearances on TV food programmes including Ready, Steady, Cook and Saturday Kitchen, on specialist cable channel UKTV Food and in their eponymous series, The Tanner Brothers.

The Tanners left the audience buzzing and inspired with their encouragement to eat and enjoy local produce, make a go of starting your own business and to embrace Plymouth as a vibrant city that is going places, right here, right now.
